LINE BREAK PROTOCOL

DURATION OF COURSE

4 hours – Competent Person

INTRODUCTION

This course will instruct employees on how to properly perform pipe system line breaks. The critical focus will be elimination, of all potential energy sources while protecting the employee from possible harmful effects of chemicals being conveyed.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of training the participants will be acquainted with the following:

  • Identify the dangers of common industrial fluids and gases
  • Review Safety Data Sheets (Proper PPE and handling)
  • Responding to chemical exposure
  • Developing and writing safe operating procedures and proper permitting
  • Identify fluid direction of flow in industrial piping
  • Identify potential failures in common pipe joining methods
  • Use of correct tools and Personal Protective Equipment
  • Pipe system work isolation devices and methods of use
  • Blank and drain pipe system to reduce chance of injury
  • Safely reconnect pipe system
  • Test system for leaks

At the conclusion of the class, each participant will complete a written exam and practical skills demonstration. The course will include media presentations and site-specific discussions.
